So this is my new diet and fitness blog. The reasoning behind it is simple. I’m forty five years old, incredibly overweight and even more unfit. Having moved to working at home three days a week, my already sedentary lifestyle has become almost comatose. Sitting at the computer, moving only to visit the toilet or make a cup of tea does not make for a healthy lifestyle, especially when the only other exercise I now get (having stopped working in the pub where at least I was walking a lot) is the stroll to and from the bus stop on work days. It is abundantly clear that changes need to be made before I either turn into one of those people in the freaky dieting shows on the telly or die of some nasty weight/unfitness related illness.

To this end I have joined a gym to improve my fitness and am about to embark on the latest attempt to lose weight through a new eating regime (I don’t want to say the ‘D’ word as I think it’s rather negative). As I chronicle my journey to greater fitness, better health and weight loss there will be daily posts as I think this will help to keep me focussed and hopefully help me to stick to the plan during the bad times I know lie ahead. I intend it to be honest as I need to acknowledge my weaknesses and fails as well as my good progress, which could be painful, but will hopefully, eventually be cathartic and helpful.

Day Ninety Nine

I was so tired this morning that I didn’t get up for the gym again. The alarm did go off at 5.15am, but having pressed snooze a couple of times, I turned it off. I thought I was getting up, but I obviously fell asleep again and didn’t wake until almost 9am, so I guess I must have needed the sleep.

I did force myself to leave the house so I could post my Christmas cards, but having started cooking I didn’t quite manage to get to the gym this evening. I really need to force myself to get up and get there tomorrow morning.

I decided to have another go at making stuffed marrow. This time I used a recipe by the Two Hairy Bikers, although to be honest I only followed their directions for stewing the marrow before stuffing it with my own mixture made up of whatever was hanging around in the fridge. It was definitely an improvement on baking alone, but still wasn’t quite as tasty as I’d hoped. I’m not one to give up though, so I’m sure I’ll have another go sometime in the future. I think the key might be to season the stuffing more as the marrow has such little taste. I also found an interesting sounding recipe for my onion squash. Hopefully I’ll have time on Saturday to give it a go.

For breakfast I had a protein shake and lunch was a fry up with gluten free sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs, mushrooms and tomato. I also had some prosciutto as a mid-afternoon snack. And, for dessert this evening, I had a greek yoghurt.
