So this is my new diet and fitness blog. The reasoning behind it is simple. I’m forty five years old, incredibly overweight and even more unfit. Having moved to working at home three days a week, my already sedentary lifestyle has become almost comatose. Sitting at the computer, moving only to visit the toilet or make a cup of tea does not make for a healthy lifestyle, especially when the only other exercise I now get (having stopped working in the pub where at least I was walking a lot) is the stroll to and from the bus stop on work days. It is abundantly clear that changes need to be made before I either turn into one of those people in the freaky dieting shows on the telly or die of some nasty weight/unfitness related illness.

To this end I have joined a gym to improve my fitness and am about to embark on the latest attempt to lose weight through a new eating regime (I don’t want to say the ‘D’ word as I think it’s rather negative). As I chronicle my journey to greater fitness, better health and weight loss there will be daily posts as I think this will help to keep me focussed and hopefully help me to stick to the plan during the bad times I know lie ahead. I intend it to be honest as I need to acknowledge my weaknesses and fails as well as my good progress, which could be painful, but will hopefully, eventually be cathartic and helpful.

Day Two

Yes I’m posting this on day three, you caught me out. Okay, I admit, I’m already failing at the daily posting. This is because I got rather involved in playing Redemption Cemetery: Children’s Plight last night and completely forgot to write one. By the time I’d dragged myself away from the game it was well past my bedtime and so I thought I’d do it today instead.

I did manage to get to the gym slightly earlier – 6.15am to be precise and it was almost completely empty. Seems people don’t like to exercise much on a Friday. The exercise went well, slightly less painful than the day before and the earlier start meant I could spend an extra ten minutes in the hot tub relaxing and de-stressing.

Home, to breakfast of bacon, scrambled eggs, tomato and mushrooms, which was definitely required as I was absolutely starving. I am really missing out on the banana that I used to eat after working out which gave me an energy boost and curbed any sweet or hunger cravings, but the carb content of a small banana is almost equal to a whole day’s carbs on Phase One of the IPD so it had to go.

By lunchtime I had a headache again. I’m not sure if this is something to do with the training, or whether the lack of carbs is beginning to affect me, but a midday/afternoon nap seemed to do the trick once more. I had some prosciutto and a couple of babybel for my lunch then went back to work.

Tonight’s meal consisted of salmon in a lemon, dill and cream sauce with a rocket, avocado and parmesan salad. I probably should have had some mayo or blue cheese dressing or something on the salad to truly stick to the IPD, but felt the cream sauce was enough. However, after a couple of hours I started feeling hungry – for the first time in a few days (and yes, I have been drinking loads of water) and because my carb count was still a bit low, I had a 0% Greek yoghurt which was lovely.

Today’s exercise: Bike = 5 mins; Stretching = 10 mins; Treadmill = 5 mins; Arm bike = 11 mins; Arc trainer = 5 mins; Swiss ball and weights = 10 mins; Bike = 5 mins; Stretching = 10 mins; Swimming = 22 lengths

Carb's Eaten: 29.5G
