So this is my new diet and fitness blog. The reasoning behind it is simple. I’m forty five years old, incredibly overweight and even more unfit. Having moved to working at home three days a week, my already sedentary lifestyle has become almost comatose. Sitting at the computer, moving only to visit the toilet or make a cup of tea does not make for a healthy lifestyle, especially when the only other exercise I now get (having stopped working in the pub where at least I was walking a lot) is the stroll to and from the bus stop on work days. It is abundantly clear that changes need to be made before I either turn into one of those people in the freaky dieting shows on the telly or die of some nasty weight/unfitness related illness.

To this end I have joined a gym to improve my fitness and am about to embark on the latest attempt to lose weight through a new eating regime (I don’t want to say the ‘D’ word as I think it’s rather negative). As I chronicle my journey to greater fitness, better health and weight loss there will be daily posts as I think this will help to keep me focussed and hopefully help me to stick to the plan during the bad times I know lie ahead. I intend it to be honest as I need to acknowledge my weaknesses and fails as well as my good progress, which could be painful, but will hopefully, eventually be cathartic and helpful.

Day Forty

It’s weigh-in day today and I’m pleased to announce that I’ve lost another three pounds, which now brings my total to one stone and one pound – I’ve broken the stone barrier!

I had my programme check with Siobhan this morning and discovered that she hadn’t set the heart rate limits that were worrying me so much – that was done by Kemsley and apparently don’t match the programme she devised at all. We had a good work out and my heart rate stayed between 109 and 111 for the whole time which is definitely an improvement on my previous rates. To counteract my having to walk so slowly on the treadmill Siobhan added some weights and turned up the speed which really helped.

I finally made it to the supermarket where I stocked up on all sorts of goodies including some yummy pumpkin for a Halloween treat for myself – a low carb pumpkin pie. Back home and I had the toffee fudge protein shake (which was okay, but not one I’d probably bother buying again – raspberry is still my fav) followed a little later by some prosciutto and a couple of bits of cheese. Dinner was pork stroganoff with a large mixed salad and some creamy salad dressing and also a small piece of steak that was spare in the pack that I split after shopping.

Short one tonight as I have to go get my food sorted for tomorrow and pack my bags and I only have a few minutes left before I need to get to bed.
