Late posting
again due to my stupid computer keep shutting down of its own accord. I ended
up having to rewrite this three times as it didn’t save it either. By the time
I’d finished I was knackered and needed to go to bed so I could get to the gym
this morning. A busy day meant I’ve only just had the chance to post. I will be
writing today’s post as soon as I finish cooking the faux shepherd’s pie that I’m
in the middle of making.
I woke up with
the intense desire to go swimming. Partly it was withdrawal symptoms from not
having been to the gym for a couple of days (yes, really, I’ve become an
addict), but mainly it was because of the fabulously summery weather we’re
currently having and a desire to cool down a bit. So I trotted off to the
Rochester Health Club and had a good old swim then a nice relax in the hot tub.
Then it was off to Asda to stock up on food.
I did make one
error, which was to not eat or drink anything before I went out, which wasn’t a
problem to start with, but become one once I was stuck at the supermarket with
a million other people for hours on end. I have to admit that hunger, thirst
and the beautiful weather led me into some questionable purchases, although the
thirst did lead me to a fantastic (for me at least) discovery.
Having not had
anything to drink for over twelve hours, I was gasping by the time I hit the
water aisle. Desperate to find a large bottle of anything still that wasn’t
sold in multipacks, I came across flavoured water. I have never really taken
much notice of this in the past, but having now spent almost a month drinking
little but pure water the idea of something with a different taste appealed. It
appealed even more when I realised that the Sicilian Lemon version has no carbs
and the Cranberry just over half a carb for the whole 1 ½ litre bottle. I also
discovered that there were zero carb flavoured sparkling waters too.
I have to
admit that half a litre of the still lemon and all of the cranberry water
disappeared pretty quickly. The rest will now be rationed as I need to be
drinking mainly plain water not flavoured. I also bought some new teas to make
a change from the rooibos and vanilla. They are green teas, which I recall not
being terribly fond of when I tried it before, but one is with lemongrass and
ginger (I love anything ginger) and the other is with honey so I’m hoping
they’ll taste okay. However, I also bought some fruit cider – which is a
definite no-no with this way of eating, but I was thinking how nice it would be
to have some on a lovely summery (can it still be summer in October?) evening.
The beautiful
weather also brought out my desire for some raspberries so I treated myself to
some knowing that whilst they are too carby for Phase One, they should be okay
considering my often inability to reach even the minimum carb limit for the
day. I also got some 0% greek yoghurt as this is the least carby yoghurt
available (also not really Phase One friendly because of the number of carbs) and
this is something I can eat to add some carbs on a low day.
I finally got
home from the supermarket at three p.m. so by the time I’d got the groceries
put away and taken my psyllium I didn’t get round to eating until just gone four.
I had a chicken and prosciutto salad with blue cheese dressing. Because of such
a late lunch, I didn’t start cooking the roast pork until seven thirty. I
wasn’t very hungry by the time it was cooked, but I did have some, with the
cauliflower and broccoli mash and some savoy cabbage as one meal really wasn’t
going to be enough for the day. This was followed by some long-desired
raspberries with cream. I didn’t have the cider though. Once I’d had the
raspberries I decided I really didn’t want to break my carb limit, so that’s
been put away for another time.
Now I just
need to find some time to do some cooking. Hopefully I’ll feel in the mood
tomorrow evening as I need to get stuff sorted for work this week. Although I
very much enjoyed reading through my new book I’m not sure I’ll be making too
much from it. The food really is a bit too gourmet for everyday and there’s a
lot of desserts and cakes (which looked lovely and quite possibly started my
craving for something sweet). Also quite a lot of the food I can’t eat on Phase
One (and I’ve got a long way to go before I can move onto Phase Two). I was
also a little disappointed to see that some of my favourite recipes from the
pink bible are actually taken from this cookery book as this means I now have
some of these recipes three times.
