So this is my new diet and fitness blog. The reasoning behind it is simple. I’m forty five years old, incredibly overweight and even more unfit. Having moved to working at home three days a week, my already sedentary lifestyle has become almost comatose. Sitting at the computer, moving only to visit the toilet or make a cup of tea does not make for a healthy lifestyle, especially when the only other exercise I now get (having stopped working in the pub where at least I was walking a lot) is the stroll to and from the bus stop on work days. It is abundantly clear that changes need to be made before I either turn into one of those people in the freaky dieting shows on the telly or die of some nasty weight/unfitness related illness.

To this end I have joined a gym to improve my fitness and am about to embark on the latest attempt to lose weight through a new eating regime (I don’t want to say the ‘D’ word as I think it’s rather negative). As I chronicle my journey to greater fitness, better health and weight loss there will be daily posts as I think this will help to keep me focussed and hopefully help me to stick to the plan during the bad times I know lie ahead. I intend it to be honest as I need to acknowledge my weaknesses and fails as well as my good progress, which could be painful, but will hopefully, eventually be cathartic and helpful.

Day Twenty Six

I had real trouble getting up this morning as I was mega tired and my joints were really aching. Finally got to the gym at 6.30 a.m. where I did a shortened work out due to the aching and the need to get back for work.

I was hungry this morning so had some honey and mustard crusted ham wrapped around Philly and avocado, with a cup of the green tea with honey. I can honestly say that hot it’s almost undrinkable, cold it’s slightly better – but not much. Thirteen hours later I still have a quarter of a mug full, although I am determined to drink it all before bed. Mind you, I hated rooibos and vanilla when I first had it, but can now drink a few mugs of that a day, so maybe this will grow on me eventually. I really hope the ginger one is better.

For lunch I had a ham, mushroom and cheese omelette for a change, although this was mainly because I was in the middle of working and it was quick to cook. For this reason I didn’t have anything else with it because putting together and eating a salad added extra time that I couldn’t really spare. Mid afternoon was a snack of the remaining pork from last night’s joint (it was only a tiny one) and then, because I needed to make some space in my stuffed fridge, the last of the raspberries with some cream.

I had intended to have faux shepherd’s pie for tea, with some cabbage, green beans and asparagus, but having worked until late I really wasn’t feeling in the mood for it by the time I’d finished making it. Instead I had a picky meal of cheese, prosciutto and added one of the yoghurts to put me into the green carb-wise for the day.

As I’m in work tomorrow I’ve got to sort out my gym kit as well as finish making my meals for the day and get it all packed up so I can carry it. Working is such a palavar!
