So this is my new diet and fitness blog. The reasoning behind it is simple. I’m forty five years old, incredibly overweight and even more unfit. Having moved to working at home three days a week, my already sedentary lifestyle has become almost comatose. Sitting at the computer, moving only to visit the toilet or make a cup of tea does not make for a healthy lifestyle, especially when the only other exercise I now get (having stopped working in the pub where at least I was walking a lot) is the stroll to and from the bus stop on work days. It is abundantly clear that changes need to be made before I either turn into one of those people in the freaky dieting shows on the telly or die of some nasty weight/unfitness related illness.

To this end I have joined a gym to improve my fitness and am about to embark on the latest attempt to lose weight through a new eating regime (I don’t want to say the ‘D’ word as I think it’s rather negative). As I chronicle my journey to greater fitness, better health and weight loss there will be daily posts as I think this will help to keep me focussed and hopefully help me to stick to the plan during the bad times I know lie ahead. I intend it to be honest as I need to acknowledge my weaknesses and fails as well as my good progress, which could be painful, but will hopefully, eventually be cathartic and helpful.

Day Eighty Three

Sorry I’m late with an update, the day I had planned yesterday changed at the last minute and instead of going to the gym, I ended up at home, knitting, lost track of the time and had to go to bed without posting.

I had intended to go to the gym after work but with the strike and problems with transport I decided to work at home today and go into work on Thursday, so an evening at the gym would have meant no gym in the morning. As I prefer morning workouts where possible, I gave the gym a miss and instead spent the evening knitting.

Breakfast was peppery buttered eggs and gluten free sausages and lunch was courgette mince with the almond topping. I had intended to have a kebab for dinner, but instead had some prosciutto, cheese and a raspberry protein shake. I did make an error in having a double size shake in an effort to up the carbs for the day, but that was too much protein and left me feeling rather sick. Definitely something not to do again!

I had also meant to have a Greek yoghurt to bring up the carb total, but never got round to it with the knitting. Still, a low carb count every so often is good as it makes up for the higher carb days.

Today’s exercise:  Just the usual daily walking, although knitting burns a few calories
Carb's Eaten: 21.4G
Exercising to: TV stuff
Weight Loss = 1 stone and 11 pounds
Inch Loss = 12.5 inches

Day Eighty Two

So imagine my surprise, when getting to the gym this morning, I discovered that I have lost seven pounds this week – yep that’s right SEVEN POUNDS!!!!

It appears that not working out for a few days wasn’t a bad thing and neither was being over the limit a few times (although none were really majorly over). I guess it’s true what they say about this way of eating, that it’s not a regular weight-loss type thing, it goes in fits and starts. Perhaps it’s time to have another measure, as maybe the inches were going when the weight wasn’t, although now that I’ve lost more pounds I’m not so fussed about worrying about the inches.

The great thing is that it means I only need to lose three more pounds to reach my two stone goal for Christmas and hopefully that will be far more easy to achieve than what I was looking at.

Anyway, I had a shorter workout than usual because I was running late (due to lots of rubbish to put out for collection and ice which needed to be scraped from my car - without a scraper ... I am so not ready for Winter), but I did manage to do a bit and went for a swim too (hurrah!)

I’ll be going tomorrow night to do a full session as I really need to get a few done before Siobhan decides it’s time for me to have a new plan, which can’t be too long, although as from next week I will be adding a mini power plate workout to the current one every day (it’ll be interesting to see how I cope with all that jiggling first thing in the morning!)

I did a quick shop after the gym to stock up on essentials, which also made me happy as I now have a fridge full of goodies again

Today’s exercise:  Bike = 10 mins; Stretching = 10 mins; Treadmill/weights = 10 mins; Cross Trainer = 5 mins;  Arm bike = 12 mins; Bike = 5 mins; Swimming = 30 lengths

Day Eighty One

Today was spent doing more housework, mainly dusting and sorting (for someone who is so untidy I’m terribly OCD). I got so involved that I didn’t realise how much time had passed. So no exercise again, but I now have a much less dusty flat.

I had a nice cooked breakfast before I started - bacon, scrambled egg and baby plum tomatoes. Lunch was some gluten free sausages which I’d just cooked and dinner was roast beef with buttered green beans and cabbage and a cheesy cauli/broccoli mash, which was cheesy because I’ve run out of cream and so put some cheese in instead. I also had some raspberry mousse and because the carbs for the day were so low, I also had some of the pumpkin mousse. Now had a Splenda overdose and need to go to bed.

Actually, I’ve just about run out of everything (although that celeriac is still sitting at the back of the fridge) so I definitely need to go shopping tomorrow after I’ve finished at the gym. And yes, I am definitely heading to the gym in the morning - I really need it, although not sure yet whether I'll be able to go swimming.

Today’s exercise:  Housework
Carb's Eaten: 20.1G
Exercising to: The Dark is Rising Sequence Book 2: The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper read by Alex Jennings

Day Eighty

So I haven’t Zumba’d today (already a failure), but that was because I’ve spent the day doing housework and specifically tidying the lounge in readiness for the Christmas tree (I’ve been using that area as extra storage all year so there was a lot to be moved), Thus today, on the exercise front at least, has been a bit of a dud.

Food-wise it hasn’t been too bad – prosciutto and cheese for breakfast, ham, philly and avocado roll-ups for lunch and stuffed marrow with cheesy almond garlic bread for dinner with raspberry mousse for dessert. I am aware that yet again I haven’t drunk enough water, which I really need to remedy before bed. I also made the decision to have a Glayva this evening (the craving hasn’t gone away so I’m getting rid of it). This brings my carbs above the level for the day again, but I’m still not going to worry about it.

Feeling quite tired though, so I’m heading off to bed for an early night.

Today’s exercise:  Housework
Carb's Eaten: 36.7G
Exercising to: Film day today

Inch Loss = 12.5 inches (nope, still not re-measured)

Day Seventy Nine

I couldn’t get to sleep last night for some reason and ended up being awake until almost 3am. This meant I was a little later than usual getting up this morning, but not much. I was still hard at work by 9am and because I wanted to get the work I was doing out of the way I didn’t have anything to eat (or drink I’ll be honest) until almost 2pm.

When I did eat, it was some butternut squash soup, followed a few hours later by a raspberry ripple protein shake. Dinner was almond crust topped courgette mince, which brought me just over my carb limit for the day, but not enough for me to worry too hard.

And yes, I did finally dig out the Zumba DVDs. I spent forty five minutes trying to learn some of the basic Zumba steps (which almost killed me) and then did ten minutes on the XL-Glider whilst watching Merlin once I’d recovered a little. I think my gym workout is the easier option than the Zumba to be honest, but now the DVD is out I’m going to try and have a go at part of it on most days (depending on schedule) and hopefully not only will I improve in learning the steps (I am by no means a natural dancer and definitely haven’t picked up any of it on the first try) but it will become easier and I’ll enjoy it a bit more.

Although Zumba wasn’t a great success for a first attempt, I am at least now a little fitter and thinner than I was when I bought it and I did manage to do some of it. The first time I put the DVD on I got tired out from just watching it, so there’s already an improvement. It can only get better!

I also had a minor victory today, or at least one that I’m claiming, when I turned down the chance to get a free bag of Thornton’s Continental Selection chocolates. All I had to do was complete an online shopping survey and the bag would be delivered to my door tomorrow morning. Normally I’d have been on the computer like a shot, but although I considered it for a moment I decided that I didn’t really need that sort of temptation in the house so I passed on the opportunity. Go me!

Today’s exercise:  Zumba = 45 mins!!!! XL Glider = 10 mins
Carb's Eaten: 32.3G
Exercising to: Rubbishy Zumba music and Merlin (of all things)
Weight Loss = 1 stone and 4 pounds

Day Seventy Eight

So I spent the day working and eating - my new and most definitely unimproved time of the month giving me that horrible permanent munchies craving (I definitely haven’t missed that). It didn’t help that being Thanksgiving in America means that all my US friends have spent all day posting pictures of the fabulous meals they’re all enjoying. It’s been torture looking at all that lovely high-carb food when I’m feeling so hungry!

Did I get my Zumba dvds out? No, of course I didn’t. But I did have a lovely sleep so was feeling much perkier than usual this morning.

So today I’ve eaten, in no particular order, prosciutto, cheese, raspberry ripple protein shake, scrambled egg and bacon, pork stroganoff and buttered vegetables, greek yoghurt and raspberry mousse. What I really fancy is a glass of Glayva, but that’s a million carbs so I’m trying hard to resist. Unfortunately I haven’t done very well on the water front today, but I’m trying to down another litre before I head off to bed to get the intake up a bit.

I’m actually not feeling in the least bit guilty about not going to the gym today, and I’m not going tomorrow either. I really am going to attempt to get the dvds out though, and I’m definitely going to go over the weekend instead.

Let’s hope the hunger disappears by tomorrow as I’m running out of the lower carb stuff and I’m really not in the mood to go shopping!

Day Seventy Seven

My eye was almost back to normal this morning and so it was off to work, where I spent a busy morning working on boring spreadsheets and a slightly more relaxed afternoon talking to my boss. I think the swelling may have been caused by an allergy, possibly from a wasp sting, as the forefinger on my left hand is also very painful and swollen and has just started (after three days) showing the signs of a sting.

Breakfast was oak smoked streaky bacon with buttery, peppery eggs and lunch was some of that rather delicious stew that I made on Sunday. Unfortunately with the stew being so high it didn’t leave me much in the way of carbs for dinner this evening, especially after a mug of tea with a friend of mine at lunchtime, but I had a raspberry protein milkshake and some prosciutto and Babybels anyway. Sadly, I was quite hungry this evening so ended up having some honey and mustard crusted ham as well, so my carbs for the day are somewhat over, although still not too bad.

I had to make my choices for the work’s Christmas lunch today, which was rather more difficult than usual. It soon became clear that any hope of sticking to the low carb way of eating was pretty much a non-starter, and whilst I could leave all the carby bits of my meal and not have dessert, I have no intention of doing that as it’s costing me so much money.

The starter wasn’t too bad, as all options were okay – garlic mushrooms (which I chose of course), prawn cocktail, and pate – however all come with some sort of bread. The mushrooms come with onion bread, which I’m hoping I won’t like very much and won’t feel the urge to scoff it all. The mains too weren’t as bad as they could have been - the obvious turkey dinner, a rib eye steak (my choice, as I’m not keen on turkey more than once a year), cod in a creamy white wine sauce and vegetable filo tart (which was a definite no in my opinion). All of these come with potatoes and vegetables, so once again a higher carb option than usual, but do-able for one day. The problem was the dessert. As I said having paid over £20 for the pleasure of spending an afternoon with my work colleagues I had no intention of missing out on the lovely sweet treat at the end – especially when everyone else would be eating it. But what to have? None of the choices were in any way carb-friendly or even heading towards carb-friendly. I spent two and a half hours agonizing over the choices, weighing up the merits of each one as I tried to decide which would be the better dessert. Eventually, and only because I had to hand in my choice, along with my money before going home, I ended up using a counting game to eliminate two of the puddings because I really couldn’t decide. The problem was that all three were so different, yet all potentially so tasty, that I couldn’t decide which one I was going to enjoy more. First to be eliminated was the intriguingly named winter spiced pannacotta, which was actually my least favourite choice as it comes with mandarin jelly and I’m not awfully keen on jelly. I kept having visions of the squares of jelly and blancmange they used to force us to eat at junior school and which used to make me throw up, so I wasn’t too sad to see that one go. And then the chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream was rejected, leaving me with the sticky toffee pudding with brandy sauce. We also get half a bottle of prosecco each, plus whatever else we drink while we’re there.

As with other occasions of this type, I’m going to go with the flow, enjoy the meal and not stress about it taking me off-track as that won’t help. Fortunately, it is two weeks before I go to Spain, so hopefully I should have a little time to stop any weight gain/stalling before Christmas.

I haven’t done a lot this evening as I’m feeling quite tired. This, I think, is due to an unexpected time of the month. Having not had a period since June, due, I’m guessing, to the increase in exercise and my change of eating habits (both of which can affect menstruation according to ever-helpful Google), I had absolutely no warning that this one was coming. Thus, even though I’ve been religiously taking my vitamins I’m feeling pretty washed out. The one good thing is that because of the lack of carbs I'm not feeling bloated, or particularly water retentive.

I’ve already decided that I’m not going to go to the gym in the morning because I can’t face another session without a swim and I wouldn’t feel comfortable going swimming at the moment. Also I think a sleep in will do me good. I may go on Friday if I’m feeling more like my old self, otherwise I shall schedule gym time into my weekend instead. However, I’m intending to give my Zumba dvds a dusting down and see if I can start getting on with them, so I won’t be completely exercise-free.

Day Seventy Six

It’s been another strange day today. When I woke up this morning my left eye was so swollen that I resembled the elephant man and I was having trouble seeing, as well as being in a lot of pain. I’ve absolutely no idea what caused it, but there was no way I was leaving the house in that state, so I worked at home and spent the day bathing my eye in cold boiled salted water which seems to have helped. It’s still a bit sore and itchy, but the swelling has gone down considerably and it’s no longer bright red like it was this morning.

This was fortunate as I had my final power plate tutorial tonight and having already cancelled it last week because of a migraine, I wasn’t eager to cancel again. As always it was a tough workout with Siobhan pushing me, mainly with exercises on my arms. Afterwards I spent a while on the normal equipment before heading down to the changing room where I realised that I’d left my towel at home so couldn’t go swimming. This was a bit of disappointment as I’d been looking forward to a dip, but maybe it was a good thing as I probably shouldn’t be swimming with my dodgy eye (although I was thinking the saline water might help to heal it further).

Food today has also been a bit scratchy due to the unexpected day at home. Not really feeling in the mood for cooking I had picky things, from prosciutto to smoked salmon and some ham rollups. I also had a chocolate mint protein shake. My early exit from the gym enabled me to be home early enough for dinner and so I had some pork stroganoff with buttered green vegetables and a greek yoghurt to once again bring my carbs into the green zone.

Day Seventy Five

It’s amazing how much better and easier the gym seems on a good day when I’ve had plenty of sleep and when I’ve lost weight. I was on quite a high after discovering that I’ve lost another two pounds, which made everything seem better and my day was more pleasant for it.

I even managed to get right on track with the low carb way of eating (and drinking) and have three meals and snacks. Even another stupid headache that had me sleeping during my lunch break didn’t stop me from getting a fair amount of work done.

Breakfast was a banana cream protein shake and a litre of water (my second of the day), lunch was chicken and bacon salad with some mayonnaise as a dressing and another litre of water and a cup of vanilla rooibos tea and dinner was a sirloin steak with a mushroom cream sauce with buttered green vegetables. Amazingly, after all this food (and prosciutto and cheese for snacks) I was still under my minimum carbs for the day, so I also had a greek yoghurt to bring the total up slightly. Another litre of water (this one sparkling, from my fabby Soda Stream) and I’m well and truly full up and still under the limit for the day.

I had intended to have celeriac dauphinoise with the steak, which I was going to make and then freeze the rest for use with the roast beef when I get round to cooking it, but having logged the ingredients in Fitday, I discovered that, what is considered one portion in the IPD Cookbook, (and would use ½ of the celeriac in my fridge) is actually 38.8g of carbs (yet another huge carb recipe lurking in a low carb book). Not wanting to ruin my good day, the celeriac was returned to the fridge. I will make the dauphinoise at some point, but I’ll need to split that one portion into three or something in order to take it down to a decent carb amount.

Work tomorrow and I’m trying to work out what to have. I desperately want to stay within my carb limit as much as I can and still have three meals, but as the prepared food is all quite high carb it’s going to take a bit of juggling. I’m off to play with figures in Fitday. See you tomorrow.

Today’s exercise:  Bike = 10 mins; Stretching = 10 mins; Treadmill/weights = 10 mins; Cross Trainer = 8 mins;  Arm bike = 12 mins; Bike = 5 mins; Arc Trainer = 5 mins; Stretching = 10 mins;  Swimming = 20 lengths

Day Seventy Four

So today is stew day!

It was with excitement and some trepidation that I finally got my slow cooker from the cupboard. The idea of beef and butternut squash stew is a good one, but in reality peeling butternut squash is a time consuming and difficult procedure which ended with several damaged nails and a cut finger. Eventually though, all the ingredients were assembled and I dumped it all in the pot to cook for eight hours. I then moved onto making the topping for yesterday’s savoury mince, baking another butternut squash for some soup and to finish the meal, made some raspberry mousse. The final casualty for the day was, sadly, my one pint Pyrex jug which had given me twenty one years of faithful service. It shattered all over the kitchen floor and took ages to clear up – and I’m not entirely convinced that I’ve found it all yet.

Have to admit I wasn’t at all sure that just dumping it all in the pot and leaving to cook would work, but it did and very tasty it was too ... and better still I still have three portions left. I think I did cut some of the butternut squash a bit too small so I'll have to remember to leave it a bit bigger next time, but it was all good.

During this bake-fest I had a chocolate mint protein shake for a late breakfast, some prosciutto and cheese for lunch and a mini pepperoni as a snack while I was cooking, as the smell of all that lovely food was making me feel hungry. One thing I have learned is that the slow cooker should only be used when I’m not around – eight hours took just too long when I was hungry and wanting some food.

On the bright side, I do now have some more meals for my freezer (sadly all relatively high carb though) and I’ve finally managed to work out the carb value of butternut squash soup for future logging - which is also pretty high, so not sure why it’s being recommended as one of the meals on the fourteen day bootcamp (otherwise known as Phase One of the IPD).

Having made the mousse I discovered a lack of suitable dessert containers (especially as most of mine were already in the freezer with pumpkin mousse in them) and so I’ve just invested in a set of stainless steel pudding ramekins from a well known auction site so I can make and freeze more desserts. Yes, I know I shouldn’t be making desserts but I’m always going to. It just helps to freeze them so I’m not tempted to eat it all in one go!

I finished the day just over my 30g limit, but after waiting so long for my stew I wasn’t changing anything.

Day Seventy Three

Sorry, didn’t post last night as I was shattered and had an early night.

Housework day today, and also a day where I didn’t get much else done. I had intended to start making Christmas cards, but didn’t, in fact I did little all day but watch TV.

Breakfast was gluten free sausages and some buttery hard boiled eggs, followed by a lunch of prosciutto and some cheese. I also finished the raspberries with some extra thick double cream, which was enough to push my carbs over the limit for the day with the planned dinner. I made a savoury mince with courgettes and mushrooms and had intended to put the topping from the chilli bake on it. However, to offset the raspberries a little, I split the mince into five portions rather than four and had a portion without the almond crust with the last of the cauli mash and some buttered green vegetables. Still over the limit alas, but not too far.

Day Seventy Two

Made it to the gym this morning, but still feeling half fatigued for some reason so I didn’t go for the full work out times, although I did try to do a bit on each machine.  This was followed by a trip to Asda where I stocked up on food including the ingredients for a beef stew (yep I’m definitely going to use that slow cooker this week, finally!)

Although I’m not supposed to have carrots as they are too carby for phase one I decided that one medium carrot split between four portions of stew weren’t going to kill, so that too will be going into it along with some butternut squash, onions, mushrooms and a little red wine. It’s making my mouth water just thinking about it. I was a bit naughty and bought some raspberries (because they were reduced), but I really fancied them and have split them over two days to diffuse the impact of such high carbs slightly. I also bought a nice piece of beef so I can make a roast dinner, with celeriac dauphinoise instead of potatoes.

Last night I was going for a meal before heading off to the cinema and so I spent quite a lot of time downloading and studying nutritional information for various restaurants (yep I really am that sad these days). Having got over the shock that a super salad from Zizzi was 61g of carbs! (Yes, really – and no, I have absolutely no idea how they can make salad that carby), I soon realised that there was no point in looking. Everything from the sort of places we were likely to be eating were going to be huge carb-wise and, if you were calorie counting (which of course I’m not), enough to make you cry. Franchise restaurants really do not cater for those who are low-carbing (or dieting in general, I guess), so I decided to take the sensible approach of just having what I wanted and not worrying about it.

However, once we arrived at Pizza Express I changed my mind about getting what I wanted (which would have been a pizza) and instead went for a salad. They do a fabulous salad containing warm garlic mushrooms, baby mozzarella, avocado, roasted tomatoes, baby spinach, rocket and balsamic syrup, honey & mustard dressing. If I’d been feeling really virtuous I’d have skipped the dressing as it is quite high carb, but I’d already sacrificed the accompanying dough sticks (I did have one, the other three I gave to Mrs H3) and the cheesy garlic bread that we would usually have had as a starter and so I decided to have the dressing. Unfortunately, although Pizza Express do publish the calories for their food, like most places they don’t feel the need to say how many carbs it is so I couldn’t work it out. I decided to log it as 20g because of the dressing. I don’t think that would be too far off.

When we go to the cinema we usually also have a Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream and, quite often, a Tango Ice Blast (I think it’s quite easy to see why I’m overweight with the stuff I used to eat on a regularly occurring night out). I did seriously consider an ice cream (one scoop rather than the usual two with chocolate sauce and chocolate pieces and nuts) and had looked up the carb count of my favourite, Chunky Monkey (31g per serving if you’re interested) just in case I decided to go for it. Whilst I really was quite eager, Mrs H3 managed to talk me out of it and instead I had two extra strong mints during the film, which whilst not helping the count for the day meant I’d had 27g less than if I’d succumbed to the banana goodness.

(Late again – Breaking Dawn this time)

Day Seventy One

It’s been a strange old day. I woke at 5am, but was absolutely knackered so had a snooze ... and another ... and another. And then I turned off my alarm and slept through until almost 9.30am. Too late to go to the gym as I had work to do and even after the sleep I was still feeling fatigued so not feeling guilty about missing it, although I  will make sure I go tomorrow, not least because I need to go shopping afterwards.

Breakfast was a chocolate mint protein shake and whilst I worked I cooked some more cream cheese stuffed chicken wrapped in bacon for my lunch, mainly because I needed to use the bacon up. I was supposed to have some salad with it, but having not gone shopping for over a week the lettuce I had left had gone limp and horrible and the radishes had gone slimy, so in the end I didn’t bother and just had the chicken.

Dinner this evening was my favourite pork stroganoff with some cauli mash and green vegetables. I did try to have my dinner earlier as I’d read something on the IPD forum about not eating after 8pm (I usually do this and its usually much later than that). Unfortunately, although the meal was nice it meant I was peckish at about 10.30pm and so I had some of Alex James’ lovely English Cheddar as a snack.

Let’s hope the cheese doesn’t give me nightmares ... or acid reflux!

Day Seventy

Felt a little better this morning, although with another day of nightmare spreadsheets to face I was fully expecting the headache to return at some point. Having said that I was meeting friends for lunch which meant that I was actually going to get a chance to leave my desk for once and get some fresh air which I was hoping would make a difference.

Breakfast was the rest of the hugely high calorie, but very low carb sausage and egg muffins along with a cup of Vanilla and Rooibos tea (hurrah, finally remembered to take it into work).

I was a little worried about lunch as we were going to an Italian cafe specializing in sandwiches and pasta, with little scope for anything low carb. There was the possibility of some salad as they have lettuce, cucumber and tomato to put in the sandwiches, but I wasn’t really in the mood as I’ve been feeling cold all day. As predicted there wasn’t much choice for me, but I did manage to get an omelette and some salad (having refused the chips which seemed to confuse the waitress). Obviously I don’t know exactly what ingredients were used in the omelette, but I have assumed three eggs as it was quite big. Although it was supposedly bacon and cheese there was hardly any of either of those, but at least it wasn’t just a salad and I managed to stay low carb.

What I did forget though were my sweeteners. I had a large mug of normal tea with my meal and had to use two teaspoons of sugar as it was quite strong (I just cannot break the sweet tea habit however hard I try). Note to self: Make sure you carry sweeteners at all times!

Those two spoons of sugar and the stick of chewing gum I had later used up almost 10g of carbs which is a huge amount (one third of my days allowance to be precise). Fortunately the low carb breakfast and dinner (ham, cheese and avocado roll ups and a banana protein shake) evened it out a bit, and, being serious, if I hadn’t had them I’d be under my minimum level for the day.

My friend gave me a Thornton's chocolate advent calendar, which her husband has bought me as a gift every year for the last ten years, so it would have been rude to turn it down. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. Obviously part of me is thinking one little chocolate a day isn't going to kill me, but really I know this isn't true, especially after seventy days (so far) without any chocolate bars. Firstly it'll get me addicted to sugar and chocolate again and secondly even if I keep within my carb limit it may well derail me which I really don't want with my two stone goal already on dodgy ground. I think I might give most of the chocolates to my co-workers and just have the name plaque and the two small penguins, which I can save until I go to Spain. This seems to me like a good compromise.

I am ending the day feeling a little headachy again, but nothing like yesterday. Hopefully it’ll be gone in the morning when I get up for the gym.

Day Sixty Nine

Sorry that I missed yesterday but I wasn’t feeling well and had (for me) an early night.

The day started well enough with sausage and egg muffins, followed by chilli bake for lunch. Unfortunately things went downhill in the afternoon when I got a stonking great headache and started feeling very queasy.

I was supposed to be having my final power plate lesson last night, but there was no way I could cope with that with my headache and nausea, so I cancelled and went home to have an early night in hopes of sleeping it off.

Dinner was a raspberry ripple protein shake and some wafer thin ham with a couple of Babybels, mainly because I needed to eat, rather than because I wanted to (fortunately the nausea had abated a little by then).

Today’s exercise:  Walking to work only

Day Sixty Eight

Weigh in time and I’ve stayed the same. I guess after the cider I should be pleased, but it’s a little demoralising that so little can stop me from losing weight – after all I didn’t exactly pig out on carbs. Having said that the scales did spend a good amount of time flickering between staying the same and having lost a pound, so I’m only just off a loss and hopefully with a good week I’ll shift some next week. I need to start losing again or I’m not going to have any chance of hitting my 2 stone target by Christmas and then I’ll really be demoralised.

Was feeling cold today, partially from the weather turning to typical November (i.e. cold, foggy and wet) and partially because the boiler at the gym was broken and the swimming pool was freezing. This cut short my swimming session, and also left me without access to the hot tub, so my bones are aching more than usual. Back home, I had a raspberry ripple protein shake before settling down to some work, a frustrating job which left me with a major headache by early afternoon.

Lunch was some wafer thin ham and a selection of cheese, mainly because I was too busy to stop and make anything else. Dinner this evening was going to be a chicken and bacon salad, but I wasn’t feeling the love for that, so instead made cream cheese stuffed chicken wrapped with bacon which I served with a selection of buttered green vegetables and cauli & broccoli mash. This I followed with some pumpkin mousse to get my carbs into the green zone.
