So this is my new diet and fitness blog. The reasoning behind it is simple. I’m forty five years old, incredibly overweight and even more unfit. Having moved to working at home three days a week, my already sedentary lifestyle has become almost comatose. Sitting at the computer, moving only to visit the toilet or make a cup of tea does not make for a healthy lifestyle, especially when the only other exercise I now get (having stopped working in the pub where at least I was walking a lot) is the stroll to and from the bus stop on work days. It is abundantly clear that changes need to be made before I either turn into one of those people in the freaky dieting shows on the telly or die of some nasty weight/unfitness related illness.

To this end I have joined a gym to improve my fitness and am about to embark on the latest attempt to lose weight through a new eating regime (I don’t want to say the ‘D’ word as I think it’s rather negative). As I chronicle my journey to greater fitness, better health and weight loss there will be daily posts as I think this will help to keep me focussed and hopefully help me to stick to the plan during the bad times I know lie ahead. I intend it to be honest as I need to acknowledge my weaknesses and fails as well as my good progress, which could be painful, but will hopefully, eventually be cathartic and helpful.

Day Sixty Eight

Weigh in time and I’ve stayed the same. I guess after the cider I should be pleased, but it’s a little demoralising that so little can stop me from losing weight – after all I didn’t exactly pig out on carbs. Having said that the scales did spend a good amount of time flickering between staying the same and having lost a pound, so I’m only just off a loss and hopefully with a good week I’ll shift some next week. I need to start losing again or I’m not going to have any chance of hitting my 2 stone target by Christmas and then I’ll really be demoralised.

Was feeling cold today, partially from the weather turning to typical November (i.e. cold, foggy and wet) and partially because the boiler at the gym was broken and the swimming pool was freezing. This cut short my swimming session, and also left me without access to the hot tub, so my bones are aching more than usual. Back home, I had a raspberry ripple protein shake before settling down to some work, a frustrating job which left me with a major headache by early afternoon.

Lunch was some wafer thin ham and a selection of cheese, mainly because I was too busy to stop and make anything else. Dinner this evening was going to be a chicken and bacon salad, but I wasn’t feeling the love for that, so instead made cream cheese stuffed chicken wrapped with bacon which I served with a selection of buttered green vegetables and cauli & broccoli mash. This I followed with some pumpkin mousse to get my carbs into the green zone.
