So this is my new diet and fitness blog. The reasoning behind it is simple. I’m forty five years old, incredibly overweight and even more unfit. Having moved to working at home three days a week, my already sedentary lifestyle has become almost comatose. Sitting at the computer, moving only to visit the toilet or make a cup of tea does not make for a healthy lifestyle, especially when the only other exercise I now get (having stopped working in the pub where at least I was walking a lot) is the stroll to and from the bus stop on work days. It is abundantly clear that changes need to be made before I either turn into one of those people in the freaky dieting shows on the telly or die of some nasty weight/unfitness related illness.

To this end I have joined a gym to improve my fitness and am about to embark on the latest attempt to lose weight through a new eating regime (I don’t want to say the ‘D’ word as I think it’s rather negative). As I chronicle my journey to greater fitness, better health and weight loss there will be daily posts as I think this will help to keep me focussed and hopefully help me to stick to the plan during the bad times I know lie ahead. I intend it to be honest as I need to acknowledge my weaknesses and fails as well as my good progress, which could be painful, but will hopefully, eventually be cathartic and helpful.

Day Seventy Six

It’s been another strange day today. When I woke up this morning my left eye was so swollen that I resembled the elephant man and I was having trouble seeing, as well as being in a lot of pain. I’ve absolutely no idea what caused it, but there was no way I was leaving the house in that state, so I worked at home and spent the day bathing my eye in cold boiled salted water which seems to have helped. It’s still a bit sore and itchy, but the swelling has gone down considerably and it’s no longer bright red like it was this morning.

This was fortunate as I had my final power plate tutorial tonight and having already cancelled it last week because of a migraine, I wasn’t eager to cancel again. As always it was a tough workout with Siobhan pushing me, mainly with exercises on my arms. Afterwards I spent a while on the normal equipment before heading down to the changing room where I realised that I’d left my towel at home so couldn’t go swimming. This was a bit of disappointment as I’d been looking forward to a dip, but maybe it was a good thing as I probably shouldn’t be swimming with my dodgy eye (although I was thinking the saline water might help to heal it further).

Food today has also been a bit scratchy due to the unexpected day at home. Not really feeling in the mood for cooking I had picky things, from prosciutto to smoked salmon and some ham rollups. I also had a chocolate mint protein shake. My early exit from the gym enabled me to be home early enough for dinner and so I had some pork stroganoff with buttered green vegetables and a greek yoghurt to once again bring my carbs into the green zone.

Today’s exercise:  Power Plate = 30 mins; Bike = 10 mins; Arm bike = 10 mins;
Carb's Eaten: 24.1G
Exercising to: Dodgy gym music
Weight Loss = 1 stone and 4 pounds
Inch Loss = 12.5 inches
Mood: Feeling freakish!
