So this is my new diet and fitness blog. The reasoning behind it is simple. I’m forty five years old, incredibly overweight and even more unfit. Having moved to working at home three days a week, my already sedentary lifestyle has become almost comatose. Sitting at the computer, moving only to visit the toilet or make a cup of tea does not make for a healthy lifestyle, especially when the only other exercise I now get (having stopped working in the pub where at least I was walking a lot) is the stroll to and from the bus stop on work days. It is abundantly clear that changes need to be made before I either turn into one of those people in the freaky dieting shows on the telly or die of some nasty weight/unfitness related illness.

To this end I have joined a gym to improve my fitness and am about to embark on the latest attempt to lose weight through a new eating regime (I don’t want to say the ‘D’ word as I think it’s rather negative). As I chronicle my journey to greater fitness, better health and weight loss there will be daily posts as I think this will help to keep me focussed and hopefully help me to stick to the plan during the bad times I know lie ahead. I intend it to be honest as I need to acknowledge my weaknesses and fails as well as my good progress, which could be painful, but will hopefully, eventually be cathartic and helpful.

Day Fifty Six

Sorry, I know I should have posted this last night, but after the two other posts I went off to do other things and got caught up in Farmville and Vampire Wars and then ran out of time.

Had a better day yesterday generally and didn’t feel any bad effects from having the donut. I could definitely feel the power plate workout in my abs and my knee has the most cracking bruise and is quite sore.

I forced myself to make some breakfast last night so had ham, cream cheese and avocado rollups and for lunch I had some of the leek, ham and blue cheese pie. Evening food was the ever popular raspberry ripple protein shake and some prosciutto and cheese. This was mainly because anything else would have put me over the carb limit because of the high carbs in the leek pie – but as this has become a favourite meal it wasn’t really a hardship. I did end up going over my limit anyway, as I met a friend for a cuppa and the carbs in that (especially now our in-house coffee providers have stopped using anything but 1% milk) put me just over.

This afternoon I realised that I haven’t been recording everything I eat on Fitday after all. Whilst I have logged even as tiny a thing as Extra Strong Mints, I haven’t been adding chewing gum. To be honest I don’t have it much anymore as I weaned myself off it last time I low carbed, but occasionally, after a strong tasting meal or whatever I will have a stick. I had never really thought about adding it until I went to buy a new pack yesterday and found myself (as I always do now) looking at the nutrition panel. I think previously the information either wasn’t easily available or I had so little I didn’t bother, but as I’m determined to be completely upfront about what goes in my mouth I shall be adding chewing gum to my custom foods and including it in my counts in future.
