So this is my new diet and fitness blog. The reasoning behind it is simple. I’m forty five years old, incredibly overweight and even more unfit. Having moved to working at home three days a week, my already sedentary lifestyle has become almost comatose. Sitting at the computer, moving only to visit the toilet or make a cup of tea does not make for a healthy lifestyle, especially when the only other exercise I now get (having stopped working in the pub where at least I was walking a lot) is the stroll to and from the bus stop on work days. It is abundantly clear that changes need to be made before I either turn into one of those people in the freaky dieting shows on the telly or die of some nasty weight/unfitness related illness.

To this end I have joined a gym to improve my fitness and am about to embark on the latest attempt to lose weight through a new eating regime (I don’t want to say the ‘D’ word as I think it’s rather negative). As I chronicle my journey to greater fitness, better health and weight loss there will be daily posts as I think this will help to keep me focussed and hopefully help me to stick to the plan during the bad times I know lie ahead. I intend it to be honest as I need to acknowledge my weaknesses and fails as well as my good progress, which could be painful, but will hopefully, eventually be cathartic and helpful.

Day Eighty Two

So imagine my surprise, when getting to the gym this morning, I discovered that I have lost seven pounds this week – yep that’s right SEVEN POUNDS!!!!

It appears that not working out for a few days wasn’t a bad thing and neither was being over the limit a few times (although none were really majorly over). I guess it’s true what they say about this way of eating, that it’s not a regular weight-loss type thing, it goes in fits and starts. Perhaps it’s time to have another measure, as maybe the inches were going when the weight wasn’t, although now that I’ve lost more pounds I’m not so fussed about worrying about the inches.

The great thing is that it means I only need to lose three more pounds to reach my two stone goal for Christmas and hopefully that will be far more easy to achieve than what I was looking at.

Anyway, I had a shorter workout than usual because I was running late (due to lots of rubbish to put out for collection and ice which needed to be scraped from my car - without a scraper ... I am so not ready for Winter), but I did manage to do a bit and went for a swim too (hurrah!)

I’ll be going tomorrow night to do a full session as I really need to get a few done before Siobhan decides it’s time for me to have a new plan, which can’t be too long, although as from next week I will be adding a mini power plate workout to the current one every day (it’ll be interesting to see how I cope with all that jiggling first thing in the morning!)

I did a quick shop after the gym to stock up on essentials, which also made me happy as I now have a fridge full of goodies again
